4 Total Etch a Sketch Lot: Vintage Preowned Etch-A-Sketch Magic Screen Ohio Art Co. 1970s Original Box Made in the USA, a Brand New Two Pack Easter Egg Etch a Sketch w/ Mini Pink Etch a Sketch and Lastly The Etch a Sketch GAME PEN Brand New.
The original 1960 version had a glass screen, which was deemed unsafe for children and changed to plastic in 1970. This version has a plastic screen, so I am dating it to the 70s, plus the artwork on the box screams 70s. It comes in the original box and includes the a original Ohio Art Toys Catalog booklet. An iconic piece of pop culture that will be the highlight of any collection.
Etch-A-Sketch was invented in 1950 by a French Electrician, but didn't hit the U.S. market until 1960 after the design was purchased and mass produced by the Ohio Art Company. It quickly became the must-have toy that Christmas and went on to sell 600,000 units its first year. In 1998, it was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame and in 2003 the Toy Industry Association named Etch-A-Sketch to its Century of Toys List, a compilation of the 100 most memorable and creative toys of the 20th century.
